SAP Activate Delivery

SAP S/4HANA Implementation Services

A new S/4HANA implementation is a chance to drop twenty years of accumulated workarounds. CssInfotech delivers greenfield S/4HANA implementations using SAP Activate and a genuine fit-to-standard approach — adopting SAP best practice first and building only where your business is actually differentiated.

We deliver across S/4HANA Cloud public edition, private edition under RISE with SAP, and on-premise, covering finance, supply chain, manufacturing and sales processes end to end.

Implementation Options: Which S/4HANA Deployment Fits You?

Getting this decision right is worth more than any other early choice. It determines your cost, your extensibility model and how much control you retain.

S/4HANA Cloud, public edition

SAP runs everything and you adopt the standard process model, with extensibility limited to defined in-app and side-by-side options. Upgrades happen on SAP's quarterly schedule whether you are ready or not. This is the fastest and cheapest route, and it works well for organisations willing to genuinely change process to match the system — often mid-market companies, or subsidiaries under a GROW with SAP programme.

S/4HANA Cloud, private edition (RISE with SAP)

You get a dedicated system in a hyperscaler or SAP data centre, with much more extensibility including classic ABAP, and control over your upgrade timing. This is the usual destination for larger enterprises with complex or regulated processes, and for customers converting an existing ECC system rather than starting fresh.

S/4HANA on-premise

Full control, full responsibility. Still the right answer where data residency, latency to plant systems, or specific regulatory constraints rule out a hosted model. Fewer new customers choose it, but it remains a legitimate option and we deliver it.

Our SAP S/4HANA Implementation Services

We cover the full programme, and we are equally comfortable taking a defined workstream alongside a larger systems integrator.

Discovery & Business Case

Establish what you are actually trying to achieve before choosing tools.

  • Current-state process assessment and pain point mapping
  • Deployment option comparison with indicative cost modelling
  • Scope, phasing and rollout strategy by entity or region
  • Business case and benefit tracking framework

Fit-to-Standard Workshops

Show the standard system working, then discuss the genuine gaps.

  • SAP Best Practices process demonstrations in a live sandbox
  • Delta requirement capture with a business owner for each
  • Backlog of gaps classified as configure, extend or change process
  • Explicit decision log so scope changes are traceable

Configuration & Build

Configure the standard, extend only where it is justified.

  • Organisational structure and master data design
  • Finance, controlling, procurement, sales and production configuration
  • In-app extensibility, custom fields and custom CDS views
  • Side-by-side extensions on SAP BTP for genuine differentiators

Data Migration

The workstream that most often causes a go-live delay.

  • Data scope definition: what must move, what can be archived
  • SAP Migration Cockpit templates and staging tables
  • Cleansing rules and business-owned data quality reporting
  • Repeated mock loads with reconciliation before cutover

Change & Enablement

The system going live is not the same as people using it well.

  • Role design mapped to Fiori business roles and authorisations
  • Training material and role-based user guides
  • Key user and super-user enablement programme
  • Adoption tracking after go-live, not just at UAT

Cutover, Go-Live & Hypercare

Rehearsed cutover, and we stay for the first period close.

  • Detailed cutover plan with dry runs and rollback criteria
  • Integration and volume testing before the freeze
  • Go-live command centre with clear escalation paths
  • Hypercare through at least one full month-end close

SAP Activate: Our Implementation Methodology

SAP Activate is SAP's own methodology, and we follow it because it front-loads the decisions that otherwise surface late and expensively.

  1. DiscoverTrial system, process exploration and business case. You see the standard software before committing to a scope, which makes fit-to-standard conversations honest.
  2. PrepareProject setup, governance, team onboarding, sandbox provisioning and the initial project backlog. Roles and decision rights get agreed here, not later.
  3. ExploreFit-to-standard workshops against a working best-practice system. Every gap is logged with a business owner, a classification and an effort estimate.
  4. RealizeIterative configuration and build in sprints, with regular business validation, integration build, data migration cycles and unit and string testing.
  5. DeployEnd-to-end and user acceptance testing, cutover dry runs, training delivery, then the production cutover itself against a rehearsed plan.
  6. RunHypercare through the first period close, then transition into steady-state support — ours, yours, or a shared model.

Functional Scope We Deliver

Our functional coverage across a typical S/4HANA implementation. We staff these with consultants who have run the processes, not just configured them.

Finance & Controlling

The Universal Journal is the biggest single change from ECC, and it changes how finance and controlling work together.

  • General ledger, accounts payable and receivable, asset accounting
  • Universal Journal (ACDOCA) and the merged FI/CO data model
  • Product costing, margin analysis and overhead management
  • Period close orchestration and embedded financial reporting

Procurement & Supply Chain

Source-to-pay and inventory processes, with Ariba integration where relevant.

  • Purchase requisitions, orders, release strategies and contracts
  • Inventory management, valuation and physical inventory
  • Supplier invoice processing and three-way matching
  • Integration to SAP Ariba and supplier networks

Manufacturing & Planning

Discrete and process manufacturing, with planning that people trust.

  • Production planning, MRP Live and capacity planning
  • Production and process orders, confirmations and backflushing
  • Quality management: inspection plans, results and notifications
  • Plant maintenance for asset-intensive operations

Sales & Logistics

Order-to-cash, including warehouse and transportation where in scope.

  • Sales orders, pricing, availability check and billing
  • Delivery processing, picking, packing and shipping
  • Extended Warehouse Management (embedded EWM)
  • Credit management and rebate processing

Benefits of a Fit-to-Standard Implementation

Every one of these comes from the same discipline: adopt the standard unless there is a documented reason not to.

  • Faster delivery — configuring best practice beats designing from a blank sheet
  • Cheaper upgrades forever — less custom code to retest each release
  • Access to SAP innovation — new standard features apply to you without rework
  • Embedded analytics — real-time reporting on live CDS views, no separate extract
  • Modern user experienceFiori role-based apps from day one
  • Simplified data model — the Universal Journal removes reconciliation effort
  • Easier support — a standard system can be supported by more people
  • Cleaner audit trail — standard controls and documented configuration

Why Choose CssInfotech as Your Implementation Partner

We are a mid-sized partner. That means you get senior people on your project rather than a pyramid staffed with juniors, and the person who scoped the work is still there at go-live.

1

Senior consultants, not a pyramid

The consultants in your fit-to-standard workshops are the ones doing the configuration. Nothing is lost in a handover from a sales team to a delivery team.

2

We argue for the standard

Custom development is billable, which is exactly why you should notice that we push back on it. Every gap needs a named business owner and a justification.

3

Technical depth in-house

Fiori, ABAP, CPI and BTP capability sits in the same company, so extensions and integrations do not need a second vendor and a second contract.

4

Data migration taken seriously early

We start data profiling in the Explore phase. Data quality is the most common cause of go-live slippage, and it is entirely predictable.

5

We stay for period close

Hypercare runs through at least one full month-end. Go-live day is rarely when the difficult problems appear.

6

Cost-effective global delivery

Onshore-quality consulting with India-based delivery economics, and overlap hours that work for European and US stakeholders.

SAP S/4HANA Implementation FAQs

How long does an S/4HANA implementation take?

For a single-entity, largely standard scope on S/4HANA Cloud public edition, six to nine months is realistic. A multi-entity private edition programme with complex manufacturing and several integrations is typically twelve to twenty-four months. The variables that matter most are scope discipline, data quality and the availability of your business people — not the software.

What is the difference between greenfield and brownfield?

Greenfield means a new implementation with a fresh configuration and selective data migration. Brownfield means technically converting your existing ECC system, keeping configuration, history and custom code. Greenfield gives a clean process reset at higher change-management cost; brownfield is faster and less disruptive but carries your existing debt forward. See our S/4HANA migration page for the conversion route.

What does fit-to-standard actually mean in practice?

It means we show you the standard SAP process running in a real system, and you decide whether your current way of working is genuinely better or simply familiar. Where it is genuinely better and commercially important, we build an extension. Where it is habit, you change the process. The discipline is in making that call explicitly, with a named owner, rather than defaulting to replication.

Can we implement in phases rather than all at once?

Yes, and it is often wise. Common phasing is by entity or region, or finance first followed by logistics. Phasing reduces risk per go-live but extends the total programme and means running temporary integrations between old and new. We model both options with you honestly, including the interim integration cost.

How much will it cost?

Licence and infrastructure costs come from SAP and depend on users and scope. Implementation services depend on scope, entity count, integration count and how much custom development survives fit-to-standard. We will not quote a number before understanding those, but we do give a costed range after a short discovery, along with what would move it up or down.

Do we need SAP Fiori as part of the implementation?

Fiori is the standard user experience for S/4HANA, so in practice yes — your users will work in Fiori apps. The question is how much launchpad design and custom app work you need beyond the standard catalogue. We keep that in scope from the start rather than treating UX as a later phase, because adoption depends on it.
