SAP Managed Services & AMS
SAP managed services means handing over ownership of the running landscape — not just answering tickets. Basis administration, HANA database operations, monitoring, patching, security, disaster recovery testing and continuous improvement, under agreed service levels.
CssInfotech provides SAP AMS across functional and technical layers, from L1 triage through L3 development, for ECC, S/4HANA, BTP and cloud SAP landscapes. If you need lighter ticket-based help instead, see our SAP support services.
Managed Services or Support Services — Which Do You Need?
We offer both, and they suit genuinely different situations. Buying the larger one when you need the smaller is a common and avoidable waste.
| Dimension | SAP Managed Services (AMS) | SAP Support Services |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Full landscape ownership including Basis and DBA | Application and functional support only |
| Coverage | Up to 24x7 follow-the-sun | Business hours, extended by agreement |

| Commercial model | Fixed monthly fee by scope and coverage | Retained hours or per-ticket |
What Our SAP Managed Services Cover
A complete operating capability. You keep the strategy and the architecture decisions; we run the landscape.
Multi-Level Application Support
A single route in, with the right skill attached to each issue.
- L1: triage, known-error resolution, user administration
- L2: functional analysis and configuration fixes
- L3: development, debugging and permanent code fixes
- Documented escalation path and SAP incident handling
- Knowledge base grown from every resolved incident
SAP Basis Administration
The technical foundation, actively managed rather than watched.
- System monitoring, tuning and capacity planning
- Kernel, support package and enhancement package updates
- System copies, refreshes and client administration
- Transport management, ChaRM and landscape governance
- Printing, spool, interfaces and job scheduling
HANA & Database Operations
Database work that prevents incidents rather than reacting to them.
- HANA administration, memory and performance management
- Backup strategy, verification and restore testing
- Housekeeping, archiving and data volume management
- System replication and high availability configuration
- Revision and patch planning with tested rollback
Monitoring & Proactive Care
Catching problems before users report them.
- Proactive monitoring via Solution Manager, Focused Run or Cloud ALM
- Alert thresholds tuned to reduce noise, not just to exist
- EarlyWatch Alert review and action tracking
- Interface and batch job monitoring with defined ownership
- Trend reporting on performance and growth
Security & Compliance
Audit readiness maintained continuously, not before each audit.
- Authorisation design, role maintenance and user provisioning
- Segregation of duties analysis and remediation
- SAP Security Notes assessment and patching cadence
- Audit evidence, access reviews and change documentation
- Disaster recovery plan maintenance and live DR drills
Continuous Improvement
The part that distinguishes AMS from a ticket queue.
- Recurring incident root cause elimination
- Automation of manual operational tasks
- Performance optimisation backlog with measured results
- Release and innovation adoption planning
- Quarterly service reviews with trends and recommendations
Our AMS Transition Process
A structured takeover, so nothing depends on undocumented knowledge held by someone who has already left.
- Discovery & due diligenceWe document the landscape, interfaces, custom code, batch schedule, known issues and current pain points. Undocumented dependencies get found here, not during an incident.
- Service designScope, coverage hours, service levels, escalation paths, tooling and reporting agreed in writing before any commitment starts.
- Knowledge transferShadowing your current team or incumbent, building runbooks and a knowledge base as we go rather than promising to write them later.
- Parallel runWe operate alongside the existing arrangement for an agreed period, so gaps surface while there is still a safety net.
- Full takeoverWe assume service ownership against the agreed SLAs, with a stabilisation period during which we expect and plan for teething issues.
- Steady state & improveOngoing operations with monthly reporting and a quarterly improvement backlog, so the incident trend goes down over time.
What You Should Expect From an AMS Partner
Reasonable expectations to hold us, or any AMS provider, to. If a provider resists these, that tells you something.
- A named team — people who learn your landscape, not a rotating pool
- Documented runbooks — owned by you, usable if you change provider
- Falling incident volumes — root causes eliminated, not just tickets closed
- Transparent reporting — real SLA performance including the misses
- Proactive findings — problems raised before they become outages
- Tested DR — actual restore drills, not a document on a shelf
- No lock-in by obscurity — knowledge stays in your systems
- Honest capacity advice — including when you need less than you buy
Coverage Models
Coverage is the largest cost driver in any AMS contract. It is worth sizing it to genuine business need rather than to a comfort level.
Business hours coverage
Support during your working day, with on-call arrangements for critical incidents outside those hours. This suits most single-region organisations and is significantly less expensive than continuous coverage.
- Cost-effective for single-region operations
- On-call escalation for genuine P1 incidents
- Scheduled work in agreed maintenance windows
- Suitable where overnight batch is monitored by exception
24x7 follow-the-sun
Continuous coverage across time zones, appropriate where operations genuinely run around the clock — manufacturing plants, global order intake, or regulated availability commitments.
- Continuous monitoring and incident response
- Overnight batch and interface failures handled live
- Suits multi-region and continuous manufacturing
- Required where downtime has direct revenue impact

Industries We Serve
Availability requirements and compliance obligations vary by sector, and they shape the service design.
Why Choose CssInfotech for SAP Managed Services
AMS is a long relationship. What matters is whether the service gets better over time or just becomes familiar.
We reduce ticket volume
Our quarterly reviews report on root causes eliminated, not just tickets closed. An AMS provider whose volumes never fall is not actually improving anything.
Named, stable teams
You get people who learn your landscape and stay. Low churn is something we manage deliberately, because context is most of the value in support work.
Full technical depth
Basis, HANA administration, ABAP, Fiori and integration all in-house. Issues do not stall at a skills boundary waiting for a third party.
Documentation you own
Runbooks and knowledge base live in your systems. If you ever change provider, you keep the knowledge — we do not think lock-in is a legitimate retention strategy.
DR that is actually tested
We run real recovery drills to an agreed schedule and report the results, including where recovery times missed target.
Right-sized recommendations
We will advise business-hours coverage over 24x7 when your operation does not justify continuous support, even though the larger contract would pay us more.
SAP Managed Services FAQs
What is the difference between SAP AMS and SAP support?
AMS means taking ownership of running your SAP landscape — including Basis, database administration, monitoring, patching and disaster recovery — under formal service levels, with a continuous improvement obligation. Support services are narrower: application and functional help on a ticket or retained-hours basis, with your team keeping infrastructure ownership. Our support services page covers the latter.
How is AMS priced?
Typically a fixed monthly fee driven by landscape size, number of systems and modules in scope, coverage hours, and service level targets. Project work and major enhancements sit outside the fee, either quoted individually or drawn from an agreed change bucket. We are explicit about that boundary in the contract, because ambiguity there causes most AMS disputes.
Can you take over from an existing AMS provider?
Yes, and we do it regularly. The critical part is the transition: proper due diligence, knowledge capture, and a parallel-run period rather than a hard cutover. Where the incumbent is uncooperative — which happens — we allow more discovery time and rebuild runbooks from the systems themselves.
Do you provide 24x7 support?
Yes, where it is genuinely warranted. But we will look at your actual out-of-hours incident history first. Many organisations pay for continuous coverage when business-hours support with a well-defined on-call escalation would serve them equally well at materially lower cost.
Will we lose control of our SAP landscape?
No. You retain architecture decisions, change approval and strategic direction; we handle execution and operations. Change advisory board approval stays with you, all documentation lives in your systems, and your team keeps full access. Handing over operations is not the same as handing over control.
What service levels do you commit to?
Response and resolution targets by priority, agreed during service design and matched to your business impact rather than taken from a template. We report actual performance monthly, including misses, and we are willing to put service credits in the contract. A provider unwilling to do that is worth questioning.
